Once you start looking around for the intersection of race and beauty, you can’t stop seeing it. A colleague sent me this ad (from the Delta magazine, for Louis Vuitton) today, thinking of our class.ImageOne thing that many scholars point to in late 20th c. advertising is the “Benetton” mode of diversity, where all colors are _present_ (that is, rainbow multiculturalism).Yet, as is the case with this ad, examining the spatial relationships reveals ongoing racial hierarchies.
